Wardrobe Planning Guide

Plan the wardrobe before
you commit to a price.

Most wardrobe regrets happen because the inside was planned after the outside. This guide walks through every decision that should be made before any quotation — so you understand exactly what you are buying.

Storage By Who Uses It

Plan storage around the person —
not a generic layout.

A wardrobe that fits how you actually live makes daily routine calmer. The same total storage feels completely different depending on who is using it and what they own.

Men

  • More short hanging for shirts and jackets
  • Trouser pull-out racks
  • Watch, belt and wallet trays
  • Dedicated shoe shelving

Women

  • Long hanging for dresses and ethnic wear
  • Jewellery and accessory trays
  • Saree or folded garment shelves
  • Full-height mirror

Couples

  • Separate his / her zones with clear division
  • Balanced hanging on each side
  • Shared loft for seasonal storage
  • Separate drawer banks per user

Kids

  • Lower shelves for independent access
  • Toy and school-bag storage zone
  • Durable, easy-clean finishes
  • Flexible shelves adjustable as needs change

Compact Rooms

  • Sliding shutters to preserve clearance
  • Mirror panels for visual space
  • Maximum vertical use with loft units
  • Drawer planning without blocking access

Pre-Quotation Checklist

What to confirm
before any advance.

Six decision categories. Most wardrobe disappointments come from skipping one of them. Walk through these with ARITSAN — or with any vendor you are evaluating.

Room & Space

  • Measure wall width, height, and depth accurately before finalising the design
  • Check ceiling height — plan for loft storage if ceiling is above 9 feet
  • Confirm walking clearance in front of the wardrobe — sliding if under 700mm
  • Check if the wall is straight and plumb — uneven walls affect fit quality

Wardrobe Type

  • Sliding: less than 700mm clearance or bed close to the wardrobe wall
  • Hinged: 700mm or more clearance needed, best for full internal access
  • Walk-in: needs a dedicated room or alcove of at least 5–6 feet depth
  • L-shaped: two adjacent walls available, corner must be planned actively

Internal Storage

  • Count actual hanging versus folded clothing before designing
  • Plan a dedicated long hanging zone — minimum 60 inches for full-length garments
  • Plan the number of drawers genuinely needed — most wardrobes underdeliver
  • Confirm shoe storage based on actual collection, not a standard allowance
  • Plan accessories tray or jewellery drawer if needed — often overlooked
  • Include sensor LED lighting — transforms daily usability significantly

Finish & Material

  • Choose finish direction for the room first, then match the wardrobe
  • Assess maintenance honestly — PU and veneer need more care than laminate
  • Check moisture risk of the room if considering veneer
  • Confirm edge banding quality for laminate — poor edging ages badly
  • Match handle style and finish to existing room hardware where possible

Hardware & Execution

  • Specify branded hinges for hinged wardrobes — cheap hinges sag quickly
  • Specify branded track and roller systems for sliding wardrobes
  • Confirm carcass material — BWP-grade board performs better in moisture
  • Confirm soft-close specification on all moving parts
  • Confirm wall-fixing and levelling is included in the installation scope

Documentation & Process

  • Get a detailed scope with inclusions and exclusions confirmed in writing
  • Confirm timeline from order placement to installation completion
  • Ask for the guarantee scope in writing before the order is placed
  • Confirm what happens if measurements or specifications need adjustment
