Modular kitchen cost in India sits across a wide range — but the number is not driven by square footage. It is driven by what is inside the cabinets. Two kitchens of the same wall length can land at very different investment levels depending on carcass material, shutter finish, hardware tier, internal accessories, and countertop choice.

This blog explains every lever, in plain language. By the end you will understand exactly which line items move the number, where homeowners overspend, where they underspend, and what a clear quote should actually contain.

Why your kitchen size is not the main cost driver

When a homeowner asks "how much does a 10-foot modular kitchen cost", the honest answer is: it depends on what you put inside it. A 10-foot kitchen with BWP carcass, acrylic shutters, premium imported hardware, and a full accessory list lands at a very different parameter band than a 10-foot kitchen with commercial ply carcass, laminate shutters, and basic hardware.

The eight cost drivers that actually move the number

  1. Carcass material. BWP plywood is the long-term choice in humid Indian conditions. HDHMR is a solid mid-tier. Commercial ply and MDF cost less but age faster near sinks.
  2. Shutter finish. Laminate, membrane, PU, acrylic, veneer, glass — each tier has its own price band.
  3. Hardware tier. Hinges, channels, lift-ups, soft-close fittings. Premium imported hardware lasts 10+ years.
  4. Internal accessories. Tandem drawers, magic corners, tall units, cutlery trays, pull-out larders — often 15–25% of total cost.
  5. Countertop. Engineered quartz costs more than granite but needs no sealing.
  6. Tall and pantry units. Recover wall height usually wasted above standard wall units.
  7. Lighting and electricals. Under-cabinet LED, profile lighting, additional points.
  8. Installation and coordination. Site visit, measurement, install team, snag closure.

Where Indian homeowners overspend

On visible drama — high-gloss acrylic across every shutter, oversized handles, statement countertops in edges that never get seen — while the carcass beneath is commercial plywood that warps within two monsoons. The drama goes; the warping stays.

Where Indian homeowners underspend

On hardware and accessories. Soft-close hinges, tandem drawers, and tall units with internal pull-outs are the parts you touch every single day. Saving here is felt within six months and resented for years.

What a clear modular kitchen quote must include

  • Carcass brand or grade (e.g. BWP 710-grade plywood), thickness, edge banding
  • Shutter finish type, brand, and edge profile
  • Hardware brand of hinges, channels, lift-ups, and tier
  • Every accessory with quantity and brand
  • Countertop material, thickness, edge profile, supplier
  • Lighting, electrical points, switch positions
  • Written warranty terms — what is covered, for how long, what voids it
  • Installation, transport, snag closure, named project manager
